Dear manufacturers..

Can we stop releasing special edition products and calling them 'Founders Edition'... How do you get the 'Founder' part?

Primary example are Google and NVIDIA, massive companies with enough money to do whatever they wanted and selling a controller or graphics card as 'Founder' is just bullshit, we aren't founding anything, its already there so just call it what it is, a slightly 'Pretty Edition' and call it a day .-.

As I understood it, it is - besides marketing and stuff - that you buy the first version (founder version) to support the next generation of the product. But this is just like the GOTY in the gaming scene.

    Game of the Year

@irene usually it's a version that's released with all of the DLC included. It releases some time after the original release.

@irene same reason my rant exists

@lxmcf @irene some games just use it to advertise themselves because the title GOTY was cool a few years ago.
It's also a reference to all those game rating sites that once called their best game the GOTY.

Or others just use it because the Devs think they are funny (for example saints row 'game of the Century' edition)..

GOTY is to my understanding a title granted by a community or something. So it is not just "business" or anything.

@s0LA in the past it was. The awards are still given, but GOTY releases have nothing to do with awarded titles.

It's called "Founder's Edition" because you get the opportunity to "find" out whether it's a piece of garbage before anyone else!

@mindev ohhh so this shit has become some kind of business model?

"Let's just release it as game of the year including all the dlc's so we can make more money out of it" kinda business model?

    darn it.
