I think that your assumption that people are afraid of relationships is invalid. There is so much entertainment and other stuff to do in this age that partners and kids for many are not worth the trouble and resource expenditure for what they give in return. And I'm not even going to include chance of relationships that end up being worse than being alone.

Try to avoid them to the extent of my powers. Unless I'm dealing with SQL or similar.
