How to do you guys take a 'shift' in your profile when working as a developer for some company?
Like if you are a web dev guy and want to get into native android dev or vice versa or start building apps for ios or getting into a complete different role of manager, dba, sysadmin or hr, or whatever there are profiles in a company?

Would your company allow you to take some 3-4 months course or would you do that i your spare time?

Does your company have any such provisions?

Don't know. Am an intern here who has already created a lot of fuss regarding timings and leaves in his first week of joining. so am refraining from asking any more non tech questions until everyone's head cools down🤣 @gitlog.

My spare. My work is project-based, not time-based, which means that I'm not tied to a specific schedule to work for my employer but I'm obligated to complete my tasks. So if I need to learn new things, I just set aside time for that whenever I want

Let's say I want to do desktop programming. I need to ask my employer to find this type of project after I proved that I can do it (We are an outsourcing company). That's all that's required

@skydhash i expected that reply. Looks like this is a rare catagory of companies where good r&d is maintained. I was talking to some other guy some days before, He was also in a similar company and was able to increase a good amount of his developer skills while contributing to projects that weren't of his tech stack.

I am currently in a company whose main product is a service that other ppl would integrate in their products (like say, mongo db), and i am responsible for creating the Android plugin for it. Maybe i would always be around as a maintainer for that plugin only, but don't know if they would allow me to participate in any other works :/

If I were in your position, I think I will grow my skills first in the area I'm interested in and talk with the manager. It's not good if you're only working on one thing. Find a project If the company is not that big, you could try pitching new features once you completed the current set, like doing the React Native plugin, the Flutter plugin.

@skydhash haha very interesting advice. Am not even known to js leave alone react native environment and only know the basics of flutter.

But the company might need its plugins for that too since those areas are also growing. I can try pitching that once my work is done.

Lol what a path to learn some new framework. You enter into it by making libraries of it. Seriously , an interesting advice.
