DevRant is not “9GAG for developers”. Stop putting your shitty jokes into rant section. There is a “joke” section to quarantine you people.

Tired of seeing “Trust me i am engineer” facebook group types jokes...

    Yeah, I guess I have to start downvoting.

    At least I understand now why stack overflow has such an aggressive vibe. Just follow these simple guidelines!!!

    @sboesch Try not to get downvote banned. 😕
  • 7
    @sboesch That's just a bandaid, unfortunately. The real issue is that those memes get more upvotes on average than a real rant. It means that a big part of the user base promote that content.

    @Jilano Yeah I guess you're right...

    Upvoting a rant about memes in rant right before upvoting a meme in rant @Root :P

    Am I missing something, I don't see that many memes or jokes with the rant tag?
  • 2
    @nibor That depends on the time you spend on devRant. If enough people reported them before, you won't see them.
  • 2
    @Jilano that's why the real solution is to do an exodus to another community, or pressure the devs into creating private groups or something.
    and I say pressure because I don't think asking will cut it.
  • 0
    @jesustricks I don't how you would pressure them either. As far as I know, devRant is still costing more than what they earn with it, so...

    @Jilano damn, i feel bad now...

    well I'm angry again rawr!

    @Root downvote banned?

    @FelisPhasma down vote bans are automatically applied when the system thinks you are spamming down votes.
    They can take, as far as I've noticed, up to two months. Dfox can also ban you permanently.

    Is this a matter of not accepting what a thing is versus getting stressed out about what we want a thing to be?

    I know I get caught up with this in various places in my life. However, one has to ask oneself "How important is this?" "Do I want to die on a hill for this?"

    I have no idea how devrant "used to be", but I really enjoy the diversity and just accept that there are shitposts from time to time. I enjoy the good natured witty banter the most. I also enjoy that people really band together and support each other for the more serious topics. So, I guess I am in the "don't give a shit" group right now.

    Honestly since I only filter out collabs, I don't even notice when a joke is miscategorized. I just scroll through my feed and upvote stuff I like.

    @Demolishun you levitate above us, what a divine being.

    Is someone bored enough to write a monkey script that offers better posts filtering as well as tags and people banning on devRant?

    e.g. As a user I never want to see any content of this guy, this guy and this gal and only see posts that include tag "devrant", don't include tag "joke/meme" and have a vote value of 10+.

    @cprn these shitty jokes have 30 upvotes as i have seen sometimes. Maybe separating up/downvotes would help us?
  • 0
    @aviophile Well, that'd require ingerention in devrant.com code, i.e. can't be done with a monkey script... And yeah, some have way more, but I meant it as a configurable value.

    Maybe we could request a feature from @dfox to suggest recategorising rants? And perhaps a new reason for downvotes marking it as a duplicate, putting it lower in the algo..?
