I am not sure if I am a lucky ass or fucking dumb ass!

Almost a year ago I started my current job in the banking industry as the 5th job in my career.. now days a guy from a cryptocurrency company located in the country next me - 1 hr drive - is asking me to join their team.

Am not sure if I should take the chance or stay where am I since its stable and there is “promises for improvements”

Companies have no loyalty to you. If you see no advancement at 2 years, take a lateral promotion.

That said, crypto is unstable. Make sure you have a path out if things go sideways, there needs to be significant upsides for you to take the risk. What those are are relative to you and your motivations. If you're not passionate about it, pass.

"Promises for improvements" mean nothing. I know people who stayed in a dead end job for years under such false promises.

That being said, you have to weigh up whether the odds are in your favour. Crypto is risky, but the skills you'll gain there with general coding & transaction processing aren't worthless elsewhere - so that's not experience you'd have to write off if it all goes sideways.

That being said, there's other things to consider here. If you have a family you need to provide for with a stable income, kids in school, lots of local friends / family, then you may wish to consider staying in the more stable job that doesn't require upheaval. If you enjoy travelling, want to move somewhere else anyway, could last a few months without work if push came to shove and there's loads more jobs in the area you're moving to, sure - that'd be worthwhile considering at least!

@SortOfTested during the first they didn’t give me what they promised, and now since they know me better they starting to increase my work load. However, I am seeing the other guy and they have been in the same spot.

On the other side, crypto yes is unstable, but will give me a chance to improve my skills and my passion is for programming, not a specific type of industry.

    Thanks for your words

@AlmondSauce the problem is with these “promises” that make you think if you leave you are losing something great!

Crypto is risky, no one knows how long it will last, and I have switched industries from agencies, to constructions, to groups and ended in banking, so its a gamble.

I don’t have a family to support, and I have friends in both countries, but my family might be the issue since I have been living and working away for a long time and now I am family back with them.

In terms of jobs in the area, there is good demand but not in my city. So, in case something happened now or later I will need to move.

Moreover, my plan was to start looking for a new job after 2 years, but with this happening it makes me reconsider.
