Not really gonna go away but software engineers needed for something will decrease due to ease of development in coming years probably

I doubt it. Engineering software is much more than just programming and domain knowledge only goes so far, just look at all “software” built in excel and access by non devs.

A few are pretty good but many have design flaws.

I think that they just going to evolve to something else...

Like system adms. With the automation of most of the their tasks... a lot of then are going into DevOps.
