Linux will read the full file and keep it in memory, so after the CAT, mysql won't have to re-read from the disk, it's already in the mem. I was looking at this and laughing, but a DB pro explained to me once :)

It's preloading the db file to mem. But there is a running joke/rant on mongo vs dev/null
