I look at my college mates and rest peacefully knowing how far ahead I am by knowing what a command line is and how to write good commits.

I'm in a Computer and Communications Engineering department.

I don't think many even know the difference between an IDE and a text editor. I believe only a minority knows how to work with git from the command line.

    Same. I had to show some group project members how to navigate the file system on command line. It blows my mind that people don’t take the time to learn this stuff on their own during or before their first CS class.

    To bd fair very few people know what they are doing in college. I probably could only write hello world until 4th year of uni when I actually became interested.
