Those who are Software Engineers in the Bay Area or other places with high cost of living (COL), do you think living in that area is worth it? Or would you rather work remote somewhere that's cheaper even if that means taking a slight pay cut?

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and want to own a home. The Peninsula is just so fucking expensive. No way I want to shell out 500k for a condo with a $500 a month HOA fee. What gives? I'm not looking to make money on a home I'm looking to have a place I can call my own.

Depends on what you want. You want to be at the heart of the most happening place of tech innovation even if it means too expensive or you want to work somewhere calm and not happening and much less expensive?

I'd never want to miss working in Silicon Valley (assuming I get a chance) to see how life works there at least for a few good years, if not decades. After that, I'll move to some place elsewhere where I could settle for good
