The reasoning behind that is that "Mr. / Mrs." were reserved for white people in the era of slavery and even afterwards. Elderly black people were called "Uncle / Aunt".

The issue therefore isn't the black guy himself, it's that he isn't "Mr. Ben". Though even that wouldn't do because "Ben" is likely his first name (short for "Benjamin"), not his last name.

Another point is that this rice brand isn't that spectacular, and they were not under fire.

However, their marketing folks have seized the opportunity to gain some media coverage, and the kicker is that they don't have to pay it as advertisement. Pretty clever, actually.

@Fast-Nop I read this too, but regardless this is due to this fucking "wokeness" crap that is doing more and more to divide society instead of bring it together. I've literally never heard any of my black mates complain about stuff this stupid, they're actually more pissed off with this woke bullshit if anything. Joke is these companies never gave a fuck before, they're virtue signalling as a marketing tactic which will probably bite them in the ass more, hopefully.

@raging-coder101 Sure it's woke crap, but it brings free media coverage on pretty much all newspapers. From a marketing perspective, it's a good move.

And they are even clever enough to only announce that now, but not implement it - which means they'll likely get free coverage AGAIN once they change it at the end of the year.

That will probably make them a lot of profit, which is what marketing is all about.
