If it's on an SSD, it should be < 30 minutes (normally 20-25-ish for me on a Samsung 850 Evo 250 gig). If it's on a HDD, please accept my condolences.

Don't forget the 12 iterations of restarts you'll need to go through

    P.S. That's not a BSOD.

that update itself was about an hour for my ssd and 500mbps ethernet. Then it was the rest of the work day to fix everything that broke. I ended up having to reinstall wsl, docker for windows, and rebuilding all my containers.

Careful with updating right away. Considering the latest Windows 10 issues, I'd suggest waiting at the very least a month.

    See you tomorrow

    Sorry, not sorry. Alternatives exist.

Windows: big update, you'll love it! Go do your taxes or something while I blackbox this update. Don't worry though, all your settings will persist through the update.

    Me: ugh, alright

    (Time passes)
    .
    .
    .
    (More time passes)
    .
    .
    .
(Enough time passes that I start to wonder how things would have worked out if I'd sacked up and asked Molly out, freshman year. She really seemed to like me and...)

Windows: I'm done! Check it out!

Me: literally the only setting you've preserved is my desktop background. You reset all my privacy settings to full data collection and spamming mode.

    Windows: enjoy!

@Jilano as if they would fix any problem without introducing a couple more as they go

They need to add this line to the message:

"Installing shit you don't need or want."

@electrineer At this point I'd take a BSOD over a full disk wipe
  • 2
@Jilano windows update may require a full disk wipe even if you waited years for them to fix it

@electrineer man big data needs antitrust busting now

That's the Blue Screen Of Denial 🤣

By the time it finishes, I could have reinstalled Linux from scratch, along with all my developer tools and one reboot to appreciate how fast it is.

Update: my laptop completely broke. Had to create a new bootable usb and start all over again.
