Google, circa 2013: We made smart glasses!
Most people: They're dorky. I won't use them.
Google: We integrated our services! Voice- & gesture-driven!
Most people: Nope. Too dorky.

Apple, circa 2020: We might be working on smart glasses.
Most people, sight unseen: Take my $$$.

@ReverendLovejoy And the brand loyalty doesn't hurt, either. ;)

To be fair, I don’t want google seeing everything I’m seeing, either. I work quite hard to block their spying.

And no, I don’t want Apple to have access either.

@Root I wrote a book about developing for Google Glass, so I'm curious about Apple's feature set, cloud integration and aesthetic design. But we all know people will flock to it as long as it's got the logo.

Has a lot less to do with their services than what apple is enabling.

Google's strategy was what it usually is for their devices: put something out there, let the mob decide and either make a 2.0 or kill it.

Apple has positioned themselves well with ARkit (currently v4), and now compact lidar, as well as a broadly adopted developer audience and a strong integration story. I can't really cast aspersions on their approach in this case.

@SortOfTested If it’s anything like the Magic Leap, it’ll be pretty awesome.

Wow not very often people actually write out "circa" and not just "ca." I admire the time you invest in this platform!
