After many hours of installing new drivers and trying different kernels, I finally have it running alright. It's sad because my laptop is pretty cutting edge so expected more... -
rayanon13608yIt's not that it's always a bad idea. The problem is laptop OEMs use new/proprietary hardware for which drivers don't exist or are not made available.
When these OEMs make a laptop, they make it for a particular OS (say Windows). Hence they customize, optimize, go through rounds of QA to make sure that the OS and hardware go well together.
It's not the same when you install Linux on that laptop. The original company probably hasn't made the necessary drivers available to run Linux on it.
So when you install a Linux on a laptop and even if it just boots up, you should be aware that there is a community so tireless that somebody has already tried, made changes, wrote blog post, tested to make sure Linux runs on that damn thing.
But we as passive users don't realize that, and complain. I understand users expect a seamless experience. But we should understand when we install Linux we are not paying a company to make our experience seamless, but relying on an amazing community.
