Those don't necessarily go hand in hand automatically.
If so then it doesn't have to be a big time sink and you could use it to build a back end for an app.... But if you don't want to do that then there's no obvious reason to dive into Node.
I wouldn't go diving into Node / JS if you're still just learning something else, get settled in your first path first, build some competency there before you change tracks.
