Does anyone else get intensely frustrated and stressed trying to explain something to someone who repeatedly fails to understand?

"ok so you click decrypt password and then you give it your private key"
"ok I clicked on download rdp file"
"no you want decrypt password"
"and then it will download a file"
"no you need to give it a file"
"which file?"
"THE FUCKING FILE IT SAYS RIGHT THERE STEVE"

Keep in mind this is the fifth time I've walked him through this

Yes. Pretty often that's my mother who fails to read and comprehend some text in her native language on screen.

This happens often when I mentor/ pair with interns. It never bothers me because they don’t do it to personally annoy me and I don’t want to stress them out by coming off as frustrated.

I'd be happy could be explaining that stuff to my parents. Normally it's how to connect to WiFi 🙃

I was showing basics of git (those 5 cli commands that are enough for 95% of the job) to the intern

Dude wrote down that in the notebook, fucked up by not making new branch, so i showed him how to use stash, he wrote down that too. that was 1st day

every fucking day got same questions about same things that in the end i started to referring to things he wrote in his notebook.

got in the office after lunch, saw him google some sh1t like "how to push changes to another branch" and just looked in his eyes and said "stash, checkout, commit, push, like you wrote down in your notebook"

I got a lot more stories about that dude, generally I think mitochondria gives more fucks than that dude!

One of the reasons I quit my helpdesk job! Had situations where someone would call, I'd identity the issue in a matter of seconds and while giving precise instructions, the caller would randomly go their own way instead resulting in me getting very agitated because I know the goddamn procedure off the top of my head and if you don't want to listen or think you know better, why call the motherfucking support line anyways?!

You failed when you said "decrypt password" and "private key". It's like morse code to them. It doesn't mean anything. Just imagine you are talking to a 5 year old, and you should be fine next time.
