I'm about to start as junior programmer. I'm taking a course which includes Scrum, where the teacher said '99.9 % of IT uses agile'.

That can't be right, right?!?

Or am I just being pessimistic? Can I get some estimates from the pro world, i.e. you?

At least parts of agile. I work on a very strict enterprise structured company, but we try to incorporate the parts of agile that we can

Waterfall is basically dead. We only learn about it so as to not repeat the (shitty) past. Your teacher is right.

Agile is the methodology of choice. I highly doubt his statistics but he isn't wrong that A LOT of companies use it. It's just smart. Waterfalling can be disastrous.

It's true that agile is very very popular in the industry right now but a I'm quite sure that many of them are not doing it properly.

Many may claim they use agile but actually don't.

I've experienced 'agile' when it was actually waterfall and the project did not meet its deadline...
