Why isn't 21:9 simply called 7:3

    @thmnmlst 7 is more than twice as big as 3 though

    Marketing, that's why; selling to impulsive buyers means 'koolr' names, bigger specs.

    Most people wouldn't compute that 7:3 is more widescreen than 16:9. They'd compare it to 4:3 and still consider 16:9 bigger. So, yeah, marketing mainly.

    Yuck, primes

    @aki237 Being prime numbers, 7 and 3 feel wrong to me. 14:6 would be nice, however.

    21:9 looks wider than 16:9 so calling it 7:3 would probably be confusing. For example we have 3:2 < 4:3 < 16:9 < 21:9.

    Im probably just rambling lol

    @lkeude96
    Except 3:2 is wider than 4:3 >_<

    Because less math-inclined people can compare 21:9 and 16:9 very rapidly and with less confusion.
    7:3 could seem "less wide" than 16:9 to the average Joe.

    Why isn't it called 420:180?
