Windows:
32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company, that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

And still one of the most used operating systems. Try and do better, I can wait.

@ScribeOfGoD because windows is preinstalled. If linux was, the numbers would be different.

Computer should have tyson os pre-installed this way people will know that there are other better options out there.

@KeyWeeUsr, I don't think so. Perhaps it's because schools have it installed. I don't know on your country, but in mine most people learn to use a computer on Windows, and don't want to change. A local supermarket sold really cheap computers with Linux installed for a couple months. This supermarket had a notice board where people could hang signs for lost pets, services and the like. A friend of mine put a sign that said "Put Windows on your new [supermarket name] computer". He worked so much that few months that he took the rest of the year as sabbatical.

@KeyWeeUsr So Linux is now Grandma ready?

Just try moving a displayport monitor to another port on the same machine. It's a simple operation. No technical reason it shouldn't just work.

And yet... it seems to work for less than half of the identical Ivy Bridge HP workstations we have at work running Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 LTS. On the other half, Linux turns off the port and won't turn it back on until you futz around with xrandr from an SSH connection.

Linux is NOT Grandma ready. Frankly I doubt it ever will be and it has nothing to do with the number of people using it.

@capnsoup I don't see my grandma messing with plugging and unplugging physical devices from the machine, so yes, it is grandma ready after a successful installation of OS + drivers on a stable machine.

@Eariel and why is that so, that people are used to windows? Oh, yes, because it's preinstalled on almost every damn desktop machine, that's why.

@KeyWeeUsr And this is why Linux is not Grandma ready. Too many of its users and developers make up excuses for the low standards in its desktop environment and its user-centric driver stacks (USB, DisplayPort).

    Linux: Not Grandma Ready.

This seems like a call to action slogan or a motto for some nerdy breakfast cereal.

'8 bit operating system originally written for a 4 bit microprocessor' I'd just love to know how that happened

@KeyWeeUsr respectfully disagreeing. You need to do a play school before wining in a high school.
