@girlybrackets UK , because new year's landed on a Sunday which is a bank holiday by default

So because we didn't have a real bank holiday they moved it to today ..

@FitzSuperUser oh, if only that was the case in Sweden as well 😢

@brettmoan dunno if sarcasm 😏 , in the UK we have holidays called bank holidays , banks we shut usually on a Monday due to some event like new year's or just cause we have a certain amount so they just stuck then throughout the year

@FitzSuperUser no sarcasm, legitimately never heard the term "bank holiday" so I assumed it's definition wrong. That's okay, the English framework "American" does many things different than the vanilla language.

@brettmoan I always assumed it was a general term all English speakers who are fluent would know 🤔

I am probably the most English guy you'd meet though so ...

I suppose others might call them national holidays ?

England I know calls them bank holidays cause people started calling them that when banks close for big holidays ... But that started hundreds of years back 😅

Correct. in the US, they are refereed to as "national" or "federal" holidays. At least in the reagions the west (pacific coast), the midwest, and the South. I can't speak for if it's used in the east coast.
