You want to write a minus? No, better turn off the computer. What did you do to us, asus...

Ps: note where did the num lock gone. You have to press fn+home to get numlock enabled. But better have awesome rog key instead of numlock so you can randomly open it's software.

Any way you can temporarily remove the keys function, or unregister it as a hardware key(not recommended)?

Who uses the numpad minus anyway :p

@RexOmni not sure, it should be possible, I think rog key will have the same number than numlock on regular keyboard, so maybe it is just software related (asus puts a lot of bloatware in their notebooks)

@TheInitializer I do, it is faster than using other minus keys, I have three keyboard languages installed and in each of them the one next to zero or shift is different, numpad one is always the same ;)

It turns off comouter immidetialy after click? Wow. I was affraid of this in macs, turned out that they figured it out and you need to hold poweroff button. Maybe soon they figure it at asus? Or its patented... Lol

@mort it puts my computer in sleep, so basicly no, it does not power down my computer. But It is still annoying to put a computer in sleep when working on something and then wait for it to wake up. Maybe one day they will figure that out lol

Reassign the key, or disable it? That'd get so annoying

Pop the key off? This strategy is also relevant for caps lock.

@Jase damn, that would piss me off more, but then, I'm a shift-insert paster, cause I'm editing in the terminal so frequently.

@lubwn having a power off button in the keys, never had and never will be a good idea. I usually like Asus laptops, so it should be more meaningful when i say, whoever made this keyboard layout decision as an absolutely incompetent jerkwad.

It was obviously a non-technical management decisions, or a decision by a non-technical designer. Anyone who uses the 10 key or understands the value in standard UI rules would have been furious with this suggestion. One can only hope that one of the developers creating all the Asus bloatware, had the foresight to slip in configuration to swap the rog key with a regular "-" and disable the sleep key (wither entirely, or switch it's functionally to like a shift-fn-sleepkey)

My current laptop is getting old and I am looking to an upgrade in an year or so. But everything on market has something to put me off. XPS has non standard keyboard layout (they freaking took out the buttons) (and not off-putting but Infuriating, the hing is too stiff), others have soldered on RAM and even storage, the 15 inch lineup is either not updated for long time after CPU refresh by Intel and the price is normally higher than you expect. XPS15 currently cooks like the best option with just messed up keyboard.

Maybe I will wait a few more years. My current VAIO has proper keyboard layout, upgradable storage and RAM, amazing hinge, good trackpad just the battery life is shit.

@flag0 I had something similar with my laptop, so I bought a new battery. Works great again :)

Damn, macs don't turn off without holding it down for a couple of seconds

@ErwinJanssen i am thinking of doing that, but even with new battery the battery life wasnt that great. Plus this battery is hard to find due to sony not selling any laptops meaning no demand.

You should see if Asus has software that lets you control this a bit more. Like change the 1 tap power button to something other than sleep. a lot of hardware vendors have something like that.
