@rusty-hacker i think he means without a package manager like 'apt-get.' Sometimes I try to install a big package from source on a machine I don't have supper user privileges for, but it requires an hour or so of "ERR: unmet dependency..... wget http://example.com/package.tar.gz; tar -xzvf package.tar.gz; cd package; ./configure --preset=$HOME/usr; make all; ..... ERR: unmet dependency" And repeat indefinitely for the large dependency tree.
