sirjofri5198yJust send a mail to your gmail account: yourname+stuff@gmail.com and you can receive it (and you have another option for sorting, e. g. for spam, etc)
-
r4nter7178y@sirjofri who are you refering to? This is literally my point :)
So many web sites do not accept a "+" in the local part of my address and it's fucking annoying. -
I didn't know that before, but I still can't see how this could be useful in any way
-
sirjofri5198y@ocab19 for registration purposes for example. You can have easy fake mail addresses and in your settings you can sort all mails. If it's more spam you can also automatically send them to trash. It's also useful to organize mails from different groups
-
tnnn3898y@r4nter But if you refuse to accept an email with '+', it will be harder for the user to blame you for the spam ;)
@ocab19 If you provide different adresses for every site (ie. tnnn+devrant@gmail.com) you can sort your emails easily base on the "to" field. And if someone leaks your email, you can just /dev/null (blackhole) it. -
unknown18398yA space is a valid character too for e-mailaddresses. You have to escape it. Unfortunately, none of the e-mailclients is accepting this.
-
sirjofri5198yBtw: gmail redirects "similar" addresses , too. If name@gmail.com exists, n.a.m.e@gmail.com, na.me@gmail.com will all go to name@gmail.com. it's funny to send someone a mail to m.y.f.r.i.e.n.d.s.n.a.m.e+a+very+long+message@gmail.com with the content: "hello"... 😉

This has been a peeve of mine for years... It took a long time of griping and failing tests as a QA to convince our Dev team to fix this issue.
Point of fact, dots are supposed to be ignored as well, only Gmail seems to be one of the few providers to support it.
e.g. test.user@domain.tld == t.e.s.t.u.s.e.r@domain.tld == testuser@domain.tld -
I think the problem is that most sites know that people are using it as a way to send stuff to spam.
-
meshbag288yThe reason is that this is the easiest way to detect who is selling your email to spammers, websites don't want to be detected :D
For fuck sake a goddamn "+" is a fucking valid character in an email address!!!!!!
