Our Daily Stand Up literally became a meeting with discussions and Q&A portion. Greater than 30 minutes LOL

I’ve noticed online dailies tend to go off rails more easily as people are on their computers and can easily get side tracked with opening their emails, spreadsheets, reporting tools etc.

The whole point of standing up was precisely to be away from all those tools and to focus on briefly sharing what we’re up to.

With the pandemic and working from home, a lot of that focus goes down the drain...

Our Standups range between 30 and 60 min

    On an average, 45 min

Had similar experience in my previous job. Standup sort of became a place to discuss anything and everything for 30-45 minutes.

After raising this in a couple of retrospective we proactively and to an extent aggressively started to cut off detailed conversations. One thing specifically helped is enforcing the format of going around the table with 1-2 sentences of what did everyone do yesterday / what will they do today kind of update ? At the end ask if anyone has a query / problem. If it can't be answered in one sentence direct them to have direct call with relevant 2-3 people after stand up.

Soon the standups came to a sane 15-20 mins

@teapot I though daily stand ups for agile teams are only for a maximum of 15 minutes? In my experience now, it is always greater than 30 minutes. The DSU is set to 30 minutes lol. It should be set to 15 minutes only.

My current DSU is like a regular meeting with details discussed and screen sharing of tech details lol
