On interview: do you know SVG?
intern: yes

It turns out that they meant that they know how to select "SVG" as the export format.

Thank god that intern went into the design department and not coding.

In German, people used to ask, idomatically, "do you know what time it is?" obviously meaning "please tell me the time", but sometimes answered "yes" by jesters.

But seriously, I would rather blame the interviewer for missing to follow up with a more detailled question. As a candidate for a senior position, I would not answer only "yes" or "no", but you should not expect that from an intern-to-be in my opinion.

Its absolutely dumb question. It can be interpreted as anything and all of the answers below are correct:

    Yes.
    Yes, its a image format.
    Yes, its scaleable vector graphics.
Yes, I can create a svg from scratch.
Yes, I can manually create a svg with just notepad.
Yes, I can create a svg and animate it.
Yes, I AM THE CREATOR OF SVG FORMAT.

Wouldn't knowing SVG just be a matter of looking up the format just like any other format? Is knowing SVG some kind of sought out career specialization?

I usually use a tool like InkScape to create SVGs.

I also know VGA and SVGA.

@hack @Demolishun well, you can linda say that about pretty much every computer language. "Python? It's like JavaScript without curly brackets sure"

Okay okay so we ask by experience in the languages. People can say "look I made this image in SVG!" whilst they actually made it with Adobe and exported to SVG.

I mostly blame the interviewer here, the question is super vague...
