Need advice for buying VR capable PC or laptop.

Basically, I want to start developing VR applications and run VR games through Virtual Desktop or Air link through Oculus Quest 2, which I will buy next month (no, I don’t have money to buy Valve Index and invest in new stationary computer), but I’m not really sure which setup I should buy. I really don’t want to spend more than 800 € for a computer. Can anyone share their experience and computer parts bought or recommended?

Thanks in advance! 😊

well.. technically a gtx 1070 is vr capable too. So you'd need something like that at the very least. To have a good experience, you might want to use something better. I had a good experience with an Oculus Rift plus rtx 2070

The laptop i use has a gtx 1070 and cost me 1.3k€ like 3 years ago. There's no way in hell, you get a vr capable laptop for 800€ or less.

Agree, laptops do cost more then stationary computers with the same specs. Also, do I really need superb video card for Oculus Quest 2?

@yehaaw yes, be aware, that you're usually rendering the image twice, if not three times, if you want to have reference image on the display aswell (for others to watch).

and most important is, that you usually want to render it in the highest possible resolution, because you might not be able to see things in the distance otherwise

800 Eurodollar could maybe be doable - if you have a strong stomach (VR sickness probability is inversely proportional to frame rate)...

Do any of you work/ play with VR?

Could you share your computer specs?

@yehaaw i player a racing sim with vr on a friends machine. He had quite strong hardware in general, but also an rtx 2070 in there, couldn't say, what the specs were in detail, one thing i noticed, was that the resolution sometimes wasn't enough in the oculus rift (i think it was the devkit 2). My laptop is marketed as "vr ready" with it's gtx 1070 8GB, 7th gen i7 and 16gigs of ram, but i didn't try it yet, because of lacking vr equipment (and possibly lacking vr support for steam linux, though also untested)
