bad-frog5464yone term:
return on investment.
building an app takes time.
time is money.
so either you hire cheaper or/and spend less time on it.
there's also the "blue hair ratio".
because gender theories and the like take quite some space in one's brain; leaving little for anything else -
asgs112754yI don't know how robust the comment text fields design is but some of the comments people post there are the best
For example, "Hit like if you are still watching this in YYYY" -
@asgs The text fields can't even properly handle line breaks. For the last 2+ years it's been so broken it's basically impossible to split the comment in paragraphs unless you edit the comment 1-2 times after posting. And right now comment editing has a bug where pressing Return inserts a newline but the cursor stays in the same line.
Their text fields are just broken, period. Also they're invisible to screenreaders. It's insane. -
Wow, always wondered what i dodged by not having a google (or Youtube) account. Now i know.
Also, i feel the urge to praise uBlock Origin and SponsorBlock for dramatically reducing the ad content of my Youtube experience. -
The YouTube app for Android is scary. It shows ads based on what other apps I installed on my phone. There's this food delivery service called Foodpanda here and I get ads even though I don't have money to buy a bottle of water. I wish Google/yt was smart enough to know my financial status.

@iiii Yeah, I always use Firefox. Otherwise my SSD would melt from all the swapping lol.

iiii90854y@AshesOfTheSun you can reduce permissions for YouTube and google services so they don't have one to monitor app activity.
Google, will you ever manage to fix YouTube so it actually doesn't fucking break every day?
This "feature" where the page doesn't reload when I click reload is neat until I want to, you know, reload to see new content. Or reload because you failed to load a single video thumbnail. But no, you managed to combine the shit of both worlds and give me a loading progress bar and then don't change anything.
Also YouTube is the prime example why you don't try to reinvent text input fields. I can't remember a single instance in the last 5 years where the comment fields didn't have at least one weird bug.
Why do tech companies build the shittiest websites?
