get a coworking space office if that's allowed where you live. 🤷♂️ -
@heyheni I don't own a car and I'd rather spend my money saving to afford a car 😅
-
@stupid-punk sounds somewhat very american living in a place where you can't get anywhere without a car?
-
@heyheni I can get to my work without a car but it's a long bus ride. And I can walk to the grocery store. But anything else is rough to impossible. My partner has been giving me rides while I save up some for a down payment to a car loan.

Drink cofffee and try to make yourself feel the minor annoyance that comes with being at the office.
When I used to handle tickets after hours or on my days off I did this.
Personally I think the office is a necessity to remain on task
People want to associate home with home and freedom not work
It mainly just comes down to not being distracted By things you’d rather be doing
One thing that keeps me on task is listening to music with fast beats and trying to make coding seem exciting which in most professional cases it’s not lol -
@MadMadMadMrMim :/ I can't drink coffee because of the meds I'm on for epilepsy. Idk this is also my first office job I just started in April. I don't feel like i know what's going on. I think part of my issue is none of my projects have timed goals at the moment. My previous job to this was pickup at a grocery store. I'd just do nothing for 20 minutes then be frantically loading groceries into cars for an hour. There's no urgency. It just feels like it doesn't matter. I kind of miss mindless tasks and I think that's why I slip into doing things like cleaning my kitchen while I'm at work at home.

Yeah the hurdle you’ll have to surmount is the psychological one. That was what I was like when I went from working a blue collar job where I came into work stoned and passed out each morning after yelling and ranting through work amiably to sitting behind a desk
You have to try to focus
You just feel a little overwhelmed because you’re the fng
This even happens to me when I take new jobs for awhile
You settle in if you have a boss that really wants to cultivate a good worker -
@MadMadMadMrMim I just feel like I do less when I have less on my plate. Like I want crazy deadlines cause then I'll actually do it. If you don't give me a deadline I'll work super slow and spend 4 hours of the workday on Twitter and tiktok because what's the point
-
You want to have a slow steady mindset of finish one task after another
As you discover more methods and add your own tools to the equation you’ll get faster
But yeah something that helps keeping you feeling a little amped and in a self confident mood really does help
Just don’t browse Facebook every other minute and if you get burnt out on a long requirement switch to some small ones you can knock out quickly slated for the test build in question
Helps you feel you’re getting stuff done and gives you a break from what is really involved so you can stew on it a little
Lot of mental tricks
Lamentably I was cigarette smoker so when i felt the stress I’d invite another guy out and engage in shop talk the whole time to stay in the mindset till my stress settled -
Rambolus1704y@stupid-punk I got the same. I am a procrastinator since the dawn of time 🤣. What helpes for me is having a call open with my co-workers and bosses. That way I feel like I am being watched what I do (even though I am not) and I feel a bigger urgency to actually do things that should be done
-
@vigidis honestly I think standing desks are a bad fad
I’ve watched people attach treadmills to them and it looks goddamn ridiculous -
@vigidis I think I'd be even less focused in a standing desk. Like idk how people like to just stand or sit all day? Like I get bored of either in like 30 minutes. When I was at my retail jobs I'd get tired of standing and just sit on the ground somewhere. Dunno how no one cared about that but I got away with it. Now I get bored of sitting and pace around my apartment.
-
@vigidis one that adjusts on its own sounds really expensive. My current desk is a foldable table that was $40 at home Depot. I've been trying to find a desk I like for under $100 lately but it's hard. Everything has drawers and I don't like drawers or they're too small of a desk.
-
@vigidis $450 was how much my current laptop cost cause I bought it used 😅 paying that much for a desk seems silly to me.
-
@vigidis a really good chair and frequently leaving your desk helps with that too
-
@vigidis just to stand up, stretch your legs, get some coffee or tea, some fresh air, walk around in your house if you're trapped inside. don't nitpick :P
I mean for a few minutes at a time, not a half hour lol -
@vigidis well ok, but I personally would think standing all day would get annoying and i walk between 5 and 15 miles a day most days lately.
-
@vigidis I get that it just is something i'm a little stubborn about. just seems like extra money for something I could solve by getting up and walking around a few minutes or inventing an excuse to :P

Search "Time Boxing" "Eisenhower matrix" "Gamification" "Public/shared task board for accountability" "Had written physical task list stuck on wall" "Have a walk" "Cold showers"
I can't seem to focus on coding while working from home. Any tips?
