Long working hours are not even productive for dev jobs. Concentration will drop to the point where you spend more time the next day fixing stupid shit from the day before than you actually gain.

That's why I usually keep my days to the contracted hours, though I do occasionally exceed even the legal maximum of 10 hours, e.g. with a customer telecon that was supposed to take two hours but went over four. With people from three continents aligned, I kept it going no matter how long it would have taken.

HR moves hours over to the next day in accounting upon reasonable request so that I don't work for free.

That is why I only work 3 hours a day. At best.
