nmunro31889y@localhost My setup is as simple and as cheap as I could make it. Full distributed work environment for less than £200, the includes Chromebook and Pi.
-
nmunro31889y@gustash I'm a web developer so as long as I can SSH in (ChromeOS has an SSH client) to my raspberry pi, I can edit and test what I want. For front end stuff ChromeOS has the dev editor, though that is not under active development anymore :(
-
gustash24499y@nmunro nothing can replace my Linux/Mac OS, but it's cool seeing people being able to work with Chrome OS 😃
-
nmunro31889y@gustash If you wanna get technical, ChromeOS is based on top of Gentoo Linux, so it's like taking hard core Linux and using it for completely the wrong intention!
Don't get me wrong, I've a desktop somewhere hidden in the house but I find this unorthodox setup suits me. -
nmunro31889y@gustash I've gone through a Gentoo install or two in the past, now I just want stuff that turns on and just works. ChromeOS does this... There's no way Windows could be stripped back to this level of simplicity!
-
gustash24499y@nmunro you're right, only Arch installs could do it, and even then it wouldn't be so stripped down. Not my cup of tea, but amazing for simplicity
-
nmunro31889y@gustash Oh yeah, totally, it ain't for everyone, but I value cost, power consumption and portability over raw power and fancy features.

rinn7e1309yI have similar setup, Acer C720 Chromebook with Cloud9. Not as powerful but manage to get the job done.

@nmunro I'm an Arch user, too. when I'm done my current personal project I want to get either a few Pis or a couple Parallelas to try my hand at distributed computing. It sounds fun. there's a $35 eight core Samsung SBC, too, I might go with that instead. There's so much possibility on the cheap now.
Since we are posting workspace setups...
Lenovo 100s Chromebook and Raspberry Pi 3 running Arch Linux and an attached hard drive.
SSH and Vim are my friends.
