Why do tech writers always produce deliverable documents in Word files instead of Markdown, LaTeX, or anything that is easy to CM? It would be easier to track revision history and dump out of the CI/CD pipeline to the customer.

    Because Markdown is crap for anything but small Readme files, and LaTeX is only worth the hassle if you want to write academic tech books.

    @Fast-Nop What’s your go-to then?

    @Cyanide Depends on the target requirement. If it is meant to be read on the web (i.e. not for download), PDF is not popular, so anything that feeds your CMS / SSG to spit out HTML pages is the ideal choice.

    Otherwise, PDF/A is the go-to, from any word processor that supports the usual features. LibreOffice at home, MS-Office at work.

    RST format is cool.
    Restructurized Text.
    We use it in python as secondary language for documentation (Sphinx)
    It looks superior than markdown.

    Btw I definitely saw some tech writers who do it in github. They are usually programming books authors though.
