Not sure why all the FAANG hate tbh. It's dumb.
As with any big company, your experience will depend a lot on which team you land in. You can have amazing teams at otherwise meh companies and meh teams at amazing companies, so scope the team out and check what's the scene for inter-team migration and stuff.
In general though, Amazon is known for its extreme work culture and high pressure environment (maybe not as high pressure as eg. finance, but def. more than usual). They're a lot more curt and "get the job done efficiently" on average than other places, a bit lower on niceties. It's not really a place for you if you want a chill job, but if you want to sweat it out, or just like that kind of env (many do) it'll be a good fit. On the bright side there's a good chance you'll end up working on hard problems at the scale Amazon operates at, which I'm told is a great experience. This is what I've been told by friends, YMMV. -
@RememberMe the guy interviewed me sounded like patient and kind yeah, I can’t know what kind of team I may land on. Did you talk about USA or European Amazon?
-
@aviophile you're right, I missed that sorry. I'm talking about Amazon US and Amazon India. I don't know anyone at Amazon EU. I'd expect their core-to-business teams (infra etc.) to be more or less the same (maybe a bit chiller because EU) but can't comment on others.
I'm not saying they're bad people or anything lol, you can have very nice patient folks in a hardcore environment. -
You shouldn't bias your decisions based on someone's judgement.
I would definitely not ask you to step away from Amazon if you are getting what you want.
But I'd personally not work for Amazon because they exploit labour, skip taxes, and overall just don't have any ethical integrity. -
myss44503yAs Floyd said, in order for bezmos to go into space, they need to cut expenses somewhere
-
@Floydimus i don’t have moral codes concerning other people that much. I will definitely state I want no overtime work or maintenance projects and night shifts but I do not think EU branch can not be that asshole.
-
@Floydimus i wish the same. In the end, one year Amazon exp might be good for CV, I am not chained to work for them anyways
I know we all hate FAANG companies here but I got invited to Amazon 5 hour interview(5 session here) after 2 technical i terviews and it feels good. It will also be in the domain I really want to work in.
But enough for good news, I want you to piss in my drink. Give me reasons to stay away from Amazon. Especially in European branch. What are they bad at? Why would people leave Amazon? Company gossips, I want to hear everything!
