I surround myself with people smarter than me and if I feel I stopped progressing, I change my job/project/field.

The downsides of this approach:
- frequently experiencing impostor syndrome
- having to prove yourself over and over again
- earning less because you never bring the experience in exactly the field they are hiring
(plus being too insecure to ask for more - again impostor syndrome)
