Oh God, how I hate a new windows laptop.
The machine just stutter for simple things. I literally spent almost two hours to download a 2 gigs .iso file.
With my speed test as normal as it always was with my previous and slower machine.
The worst part is to install another os.

I struggled to find an option in BIOS to disable Intel's RST. Which was a no no because Ubuntu couldn't understand it's config.
There's an app that comes pre installed to manage these settings. And the sucker didn't have any option to disable. Why? Because It's deprecated!

I spent 5 hours to understand that l needed to access the machine BIOS and activate a hidden option (did you think the option was right there huh?) in order to remove Intel RST.

Oh God how I hate tech monopoly.

Now my machine can breath without shitloads of unused apps and garbage "file checkers" and "anti viruses" that comes pre installed.
And things download super fast without any struggles.

    Sounds like you have an issue with intel and your manufacture more than windows tbh

    Fact that you can install whatever you want kinda negates that there is a monopoly. I'd also reevaluate your process of new laptop purchases. If I didn't want crapware, I wouldn't buy the $299 'special' at Walmart.

    Sager/Clevo doesn't come with windows by default. You have to add it. This means zero bloatware.

    How nice of you to complain about a windows laptop without any info about the laptop.

    @PaperTrail your country doesn't. But Brazil. Yes, we have. Without mentioning the insane taxes for everything. I wish we had that 299 'special' at Walmart. But those 'special' machines cost no more than a salary of a 9 to 5 minimum wage worker.

    @ChristoPy > "your country doesn't. But Brazil. Yes"

    Sorry, that sounds terrible. It's too easy for Americans to assume everyone else can just run to the store and pick up necessities (food, cloths, decent computer to do their jobs, etc). I incorrectly made that assumption too.

    @ChristoPy > "Acer Aspire 5"

    My son has that model (or just a number or two off). It's pretty good. Insane battery life.

    Be careful about the lid. We found out the Acer Aspires are prone to the lid cracking at the fulcrum points. If you close/open the screen a lot, the lid may crack. A tech told me the plastic that attaches to the screen is too thin for the force required to open/close it. Just as long as one doesn't 'jerk'/slam the lid open/close, the lid should last for years.

    @PaperTrail that's true.
    My previous machine was another Acer Aspire. The lid hinge cracked after a few years. Thanks for the reminder
