Here's the thing nothing wrong with a jack of all trades.. it does dilute your potential. But it also helps you find what your really good at.
Depends on your outlook, it works for me. -
@FitzSuperUser awesome comment. Yea, in that way it worked out for me (more likely to stay in web development, but who knows). Wanted to be either pro at Java or PHP (started off with some PHP, then Java in software dev), intermediate at both of them tho.

johnDoe32138yIt's not a bad way to learn the field honestly.
I'm doing something similar, on my second year of my program, and I've probably gone through over 9 different languages, and explored various concepts like DB management, OOSAAD, Principles in Comp Sci. As of now, I'm only really confident with web development Back/Front end. But that's fine, once my 2 year program is done, I can go elsewhere to specialize in what I found interesting. Regardless even after 2 years I feel like I have a decent understanding on how many systems are implemented and executed. -
@nicnaknic For me it seems like a place where they put me into different fields so I know what works best for my interest. Just like you said for the most part. For now, I had only some interest in bash (in operating systems), computer network, a bit Android and C++ development (where curiosity was 'ignited' from uni), but at home I was doing laravel and some Java.
Was glad to hear your perspective on this one! And good luck with your studies!
As I am not that advanced (started off as a 'jack of all trades' - huge mistake) in programming (about a bit below average), I'm just overwhelmed by knowledge of someone here, yet I am happy to know how much I can learn in next couple of years. π I feel kinda stupid when I see everyone posting what programming horror or stuff they are going through and I am there be like (sometimes) - I know some of these words π
I am a newbie in this community (but soph. student in uni) thus I'd like to just say hi and wish everyone a good day even if things are not good at the timeπ€ππͺ
