"Forgot to tell everyone I changed the names of the tables"

Wtf?! In what situation can that happen without a PR and with everyone's buy-in and approval?!

@darksideofday, were you guys using a SaaS database and everyone got owner access because "move fast and break things" and "figure out changes and PRs protocol later"?
    Been there, facepalm'd that
  • 3
@JsonBoa exactly... even the interns have access
  • 4
@AlmondSauce ikr? the worst part is that it's a really nice guy, and he had good intentions. the reason why he redid the tables was to make the process faster, but the lack of warning broke the process entirely

@darksideofyay How on earth can changing table names make anything faster?! But yes, sometimes clueless idiots can be lovely, just clueless.
  • 2
@AlmondSauce he rearranged a lot of stuff actually. not only were the tables renamed, but the way the data was being read too
  • 2
@darksideofyay Fair cop in that case but yeah - definitely should have been done by an established ticket and PR that everyone was aware of.
  • 2
@AlmondSauce yeah... the truth is there's not a lot of paperwork between these things and it could work out with a quick group message, cause it's a small team. having the proper procedures in place would be great, but it's not gonna happen 🤷

@darksideofyay it will happen if you decide to make it happen.
  • 1
@electrineer right... because the intern is gonna override the way a huge company goes about their processes
  • 0
@darksideofyay you can always suggest. Now you have a real example of what it could prevent. It's a small team so not that unlikely to happen.
  • 0
@electrineer we have one of these occurrences every week. not even the people above have a say in that s*it, and neither do the people above them...
  • 0
@darksideofyay it's a decision internal to your team.
  • 1
@AlmondSauce hahahaha you think the change was made through code instead of direct editing the db?
