Guys, actually i am a very slow coder, in the last two weeks my progress was very less hence today while meeting my CTO told me he is very disappointed with my progress and he will speak with my boss soon to discuss about me. Do you think he will fire me because of it? Actually i am working on react native and its very new to me. I am still learning stuff about it. But the tasks are kinda overwhelming. So i am taking this much time with it.

    Wrong tags REEE

Just tell them it’s still new for you and need to learn more, some people learn quick, some Slower. That’s normal. However they can’t push you real world tickets and expect to be as fast as an experienced one while you are still learning.

Probably he already forgot about you. Don't sweat it. There is a high chance he is dissapointed of the low output of all his employees.

    Ask questions:

    1. How can I be more responsive? Do you want updates on progress more often? Do you want me to tell you it will take n amount of hours to learn this technology?

    2. Do you have some ideas for increasing output? Is there a mentoring program so I can learn from other devs?

My manager was upset with me a couple of years ago. I didn't understand he wanted me to talk to him more about what I was working on. I was used to working alone and just learning and working. There was a lot of code to read. Once he clarified this expectation things got better. If you approach the problem in a solution oriented way it shows that you want to improve the situation. It could be that his impression is the progress is slow because he doesn't understand the scope entirely and he wants more updates.

PS: Go through your boss first.

How is your team built? Is everyone doing solo work or can you help each other?

In my situation where we are a team of 7 devs helping out it would be fucked up if anyone came to a dev directly and said they had low output. We would just say "this project needs more help" and assign others to help.

The CTO getting involved with shaming individual devs...must be a really small company.

Where I work it would be considered fucked up for a CTO to complain about someone's work rate.

The times I've been called out for being slow was a junior and thought I could do everything on my own without asking for help and my PM said "I know you work hard - we're not asking you to work harder - just to let us know when you're falling behind and ask people for help!"

To put them on the spot I would ask "Are you really saying me as an indvudual employee is too slow and should work harder - or are you just trying to say I should've communicated more clearly when things are slow to ensure we allocate more resources/ collaboration / education?"

@Benutzername that's what I was going to say. There are people that live disappointed. And just like to pass their bad vibes to the people around.

@jiraTicket yeah its quite a small company, total 50 employees, in my team there are 4/5 people but i am only the one in the react native team. So no senior react native dev to ask for help.
