Two weeks after being told I’ve got the job I still don’t actually have the actual offer or info on what team I would be joining / role I will be doing.

Meanwhile recruiters are hounding me and other places are interested. Ffs

IMO some of the time this means they are waiting to hear back from candidates they want more

I’ve seen places do that when we’ve been recruiting.

They didn’t get me an offer today but they did set up a call for Monday so maybe this is going to be it and I’m the best of a bad bunch after all

@devphobe well vs my other offer it’s more money, massive pension, more budget for training, and less hours.
What is not to like…

…I guess the not to like list. Includes have a high level of bureaucracy. Loads of existing stuff to maintain.
Green field stuff is Java.
And I’ll have to learn a whole new tech stack and toolset , but unclear if it’s just be able to create basic CRUD systems.

An example of the slowness of this place is after this chat it will be another 2 weeks before they can sit down with me and decide what team I should join.

I’m really leaning towards not choosing the financial benefits and instead taking the lesser paying option if I’m honest.
They have more interesting coding problems and it’s more pressure/fast paced. Though there’s less opportunities for moving up to other levels your voice is also closer to the top because it’s not a massive company.

Is waiting for a third opportunity an option? Im seriously worried about you taking that first one. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes taking positions, one almost cost my marriage.

@devphobe thanks for helping I really appreciate it. If my current job didn’t feel so bad I guess I might hang on but I’m only the 4 months I’ve been here it’s really done me no good at all.
I wish I could name them and warn people off.

So to try and improve this situation I think I should go for something more local and spend 1-2 days in office (I’m on a fully remote contract now).
The social benefit of that is going to be good for me both mentally and physically I think. But that filters out many roles on the market right now.

So that leaves me with these two current ones. The one I mentioned in this post has a similar structure etc to where I am now, and is a massive company. Clearly very slow moving.
Benefits are fantastic but sure feels like a local version of my current job, with a tech stack I don’t do.

Other option is smaller and hectic, the benefits aren’t great. But they don’t just do CRUD / forms over data coding like the majority of places so it’s quite interesting.
I know exactly what I’m in for there, good and bad because I have a close friend there.

I know I’ll be really busy but I need that, when I’m bored my mind wanders to places it shouldn’t go.

So despite it’s short comings I think this will actually be better for me.
With a bit of luck they’ll grow and I’ll be able to grow with them but only time will tell on that.
