@KnightsOfCode Gmail sets a cookie to remember your login for the next time you open the website. That way you don't need to login everytime.

@nocgod fair point, but it is still annoying when people don't listen while they pay you for it. It just makes no sense.

Cookies (koekjes) also help keeping track of where you were before so that you van go back and forth in pages. And your authentication with the service. Not all cookies are bad
Client: I want all cookies blocked on my computer.
Me: Are you sure? Some things won't work if i do that. Like using online banking.
Client: I don't use it, so it's fine.
*Two weeks pass. I have to come back and see three bankcards laying on the table*
Client: I'm not able to use online banking anymore. Can you fix it?
