Paying more AWS bills then my rent! Sucks.

    So don't use AWS? It always struck me as ludicrously overpriced. "But you only pay for the services you use!" say the morons.

    There better be alot of traffic on whatever it is that you are hosting then. And if you have traffic... shouldn't there be some income from it?

    @spongegeoff got any cheaper recommendations?

    This has made my morning 😂😂... Was in the same predicament till I switched to digital ocean...
    Aws is like a house where they charge you to breath

    Have you tried OVH? Unless you're enterprise level or you just want experience with certain cloud tech it's almost always better to configure that stuff yourself on a VM that doesn't link directly to a super-billionaire's pocket-book

    have you tried serverless? Just kidding :D

    @spongegeoff

    I never understood the cloud hypetrain.

    Most of things i would need from cloud i can do orders of magnitude cheaper by rolling it on cheap hetzner vps.

    One time i remember vividly, one project was on other cloud, micro$oft one, was generating 600eur+ monthly cost. I moved it all to single cpx2 vps. Works till this day without hiccup

    @DubbaThony tbh if you genuinely need a full eco-system it can be better. Most companies like to think they do...

    @PeterDCarter

    Fair.
    But vast majority of companies just need to host couple of services and let them talk to each other

    @DubbaThony Completely agree that most companies don't need more than you can get from any shared hosting provider. Plus, you don't need a devops team/some serious time for familiarisation at every stage of everything. I opened an AWS account and then left it alone, played about and then did nothing (nothing) - but somehow, I was still on my way to using up the free allowance and collecting a bill of unknown size. Without any web traffic, without a web page. Took a look at charges for *the availabilty of* - not use of - a straightforward FTP connection, closed account immediately.
