@AvatarOfKaine So you mean, midgets can't be great warriors?!
Also, at least Wikipedia says about his role in the original play: "Hercule Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac, a cadet (nobleman serving as a soldier) in the French Army, is a brash, strong-willed man of many talents. In addition to being a remarkable duelist, he is a gifted, joyful poet and is also a musical artist."
A midget could still fit this. Maybe he is exceptionally skilled and therefore doesn't need to depend on reach and strength as much as the average soldier. And it isn't like a midget couldn't be fast or strong. If he trains more and has the right genes and nutrition (he is a noble after all), he can still have a pure body attribute advantage against people from less well-fed classes (which probably provide the majority of the fighting men). -
And the whole thing is about a man who doubts himself because of a social stigma he can't do anything against. A huge nose wouldn't count as such in the present day and would be hard to relate to for the audience. But you just proved that being a midget still does. So being short definitely is the better choice here than having a big nose. And it avoids the whole antisemitism debate that boilds up every time someone is depicted having a big or oddly shaped nose (that is a real minefield).
So not sure whether he is the right choice - but him being short isn't really an issue.
You know it's not that I don't like the midget who played Tyrion as an actor .. but why would they make him Cyrano de Bergerac?
