What laptops do you guys use for programming and general studenting? (if you're a student). I'm partly just interested and partly in need of recommendations as my current Lenovo Z50 75 has all but died.

Lenovo thinkpad t430. They're really cheap second hand and really great laptops. The thinkpad keyboard is a also second to none on a laptop - which is one of the most important parts for a programming laptop.

I just use whatever I have. Linux runs well on pretty much everything from the last decade, which is why I feel like specs aren't too important for me. However if you're in the market for a new laptop I'd suggest getting a Dell or a Lenovo laptop. Let's just say if you throw a Dell or Lenovo at a person's face the laptop will be just fine, not sure about the person's face though.

@dannydam Well, I think that there are a lot of shitty dells and lenovo laptops. But a good lenovo thinkpad or a dell xps are some of the best laptops imo

The laptop I have from Dell is considered very shitty, it's an Inspiron 5421 (14R), which is a low end laptop from 2013 with a touchscreen. Yet it has fallen down the stairs, thrown in the air a few times while it was in my backpack, and generally I didn't take good care of it. Aside from cosmetic damages of the plastic shell the laptop is as good as new.

I use this year's XPS 15. Spent all my #studentlife savings but it is a good all arounder.
