Everything is abbreviated with 1-3 letters. Typical C++ dev 🙂

So does anyone actually use a window layout where they can see their desktop wallpaper while working?

On my main machine, i only see the desktop right after boot and before shutdown. There rarely is uncovered desktop space.

@Oktokolo same here. every window is fullscreen

@Lensflare I use a three column layout which i maintain manually because there just aren't any tiling window mangers for actual GUI users who want to use the mouse for window management.

I mostly browse in the center column and my IDE spans left and center. Right is mostly for logs, background YouTube, standby video conferences and other meta stuff.

@Oktokolo Why not just use a second monitor?

@Lensflare I don't like seams in my screen space. Also don't really have a need for more monitors. A single modest 32" 4k VA provides enough screenspace for now.

@Oktokolo oh wow. I have a 35'' and another smaller one and for me it’s the bare minimum 😅

The big one for the main stuff (mostly the IDE).
And the small one for secondary stuff like Teams or designs for the frontend.

@Lensflare Normally i put design docs and manuals in the right column and zoom in on the relevant part.

Sometimes i make that right column temporarily larger as i rarely use two editor windows side-by-side when implementing something new or applying design changes.

As i don't have a restrictive window manager to fight with, changing column width boils down to just dragging two window borders (with a mouse-oriented tiling window manager that would be just one mouse drag).

Having icons on your desktop ... Yuck!

Clean and empty is the way to go .

@Oktokolo well, then it just is a matter of having screens with very thin borders.
Personally I don't mind borders, but nowadays screen borders are just a few millimeters thick.

@NeatNerdPrime Or just have a single bigger screen - which exactly is what i got.
