While reviewing some DB work, I asked why most of the tables in the database didn't have indexes (some didn't even have primary keys).

He answered: "Well I thought they really didn't neeeeeeed them?"

    Whereas you don't need indices, primary keys might be handy.

    Omitting indices from your db might actually be an optimisation, provided another (combination of) column(s) is unique and differentiable to that tuple.
