I think it's a mixture of ignorance (not knowing better tools exist) and brand loyalty, even if it is proprietary and has ads.

Bikonja23837yI still prefer WinRAR for it's features, but 7zip is getting closer and closer. In regards to actual archiving I do like 7zip, it's superior to both zip and rar, but rar is still good. In terms of support, I believe both WinRar and 7zip support pretty much every archive format.

I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.
