I am stranded in the middle of highway because my car engine failed. My 3000$ 10 year old garbage car is full of problems. My life keeps sinking lower and lower each day in every possible way. My parents are so broke that they have to borrow money for food and gas from me, who is also broke (i have about 1500$ left to my name which is over 150,000 (6 figures) in my currency). I sank into the new low. How am i going to buy food and bring groceries to home without a transport such as car? My life has became harder

People who have a car (any car), people who have a job, and people who can afford to go to the gym aside from any other optional life activity -- have no idea how lucky life they are living

I now have to abandon programming because $3.75/hour salary is not going to help my situation right now. I have to focus only on getting money and nothing else. People with money have no idea how happy and lucky they are...

    Feel you.

Have you tried remote programming jobs that pay better?
  • 3
@gymmerDeveloper he doesn't have the exp. for such positions. most job posts I check search for 3-5 yrs min in their stack...

but there are always exceptions so better try than not ;)
  • 3
@We3D Lmao this trash country has the shittest roads you cant even imagine. There are pot holes in the center of the city. I just happened to take a pic of one rare region where it looks good
  • 2
@b2plane and for a moment I thought it was better than here ;)
  • 1
@gymmerDeveloper of course i have. 0 of them ever replied back to me on upwork. No to mention indeed and other sites i tried. I have never got to the point of what salary i want for remote work. I'd like to work remotely if possible
  • 2
@We3D ironically, i have 5+ years of "professional" experience, meaning i build real world software for international clients (usa) together with a friend. But they dont count that because i havent "officially worked in a company while doing that". Who gives a fuck if i did something alone remotely vs doing THE SAME EXACT THING in a company? Apparently these trash companies care
  • 2
@b2plane same here. that american bastard doesn't bother to give me a contract leaving me in the gray zone and paying me in the fucking paypal...but more yrs
  • 2
    @We3D where are you from?

Doesn't PayPal doesn't steal a lot of your income?

Edit: @b2plane you like development and are doing it for a living. Just like I do. That's also a gift. So many people doing what they don't like. That's sad
  • 2
Bulgaria and yes it does. at the time was max $500 withdraw with not pleasant tax...

but hey at least that prick wasn't paying anything for the 'big' money transfer ;]
  • 2
@retoor we build him a site that was generating $500,000 a month and he was giving me almost the min for my region...

and the indian guys were getting even less and was the majority of the personal
  • 4
I feel you that sucks, but u need to stop feeling so sorry for yourself, approach life at different angles if it’s not working, and stop having this debilitating worry feeling all the time.
  • 1
@retoor apparently doing what you love is never profitable. People with money have no fucking idea how lucky and happy lives they live
  • 1
@b2plane doing what I love is in my case in this country quite profitable. I have no idea why it's so hard for you to get outsourcing job. Maybe Serbia is just not a popular country for it or smth. Don't know how it works
  • 3
@retoor serbia is the only country not in european union. Serbia is the only country in europe supporting russia in the war and not posing any sanctions. Serbia is the only most hated country worldwide especially in balkans. When i tell someone im from serbia im ashamed. I literally got rejected a remote job in Poland just because i dont have international VISA because its not supported for non-european-union countries. Serbia may have the best basketball and tennis player in the world (aside from tesla) but the whole country is literal TRASH.

Can you IMAGINE 1500$ being worth 6 figures in serbian currency? This is why it's extremely hard to earn 4 figures (USD) here. How do i buy a fucking car with that????
  • 2
@retoor 1 RSD (Republic Serbian Dinar) is worth LESS than 1 AMERICAN PENNY (less than 0.01$)

This is why when someone has a $750/month USD salary in serbia, he's considered as ABOVE-AVERAGE EARNER

Do you live in the countryside or somewhere remote? Most European cities are pretty livable without a car (even if most Eastern European countries are far behind the Western ones). I think buying groceries and living, in general, is way easier because we usually have less sprawl than in North America. Having a car is usually the most expensive way of transportation.

@chonky-quiche I took it more as him venting concerning his current position. Sometimes it is hard to keep a positive attitude when you are surrounded by a lot of what could constitute as misery. No positive mindset can outshine misery. So i get the OP and I really do feel for his situation.

To op, here is to hoping that you can leave your country to better places man.

@Lasoloz thanks to God i live in a city thats not too large so i can walk anywhere. But carrying groceries to home by foot is the hard part. Bags may break and the weight is exhausting. Thats why we always use a car
  • 4
@AleCx04 yeah but I’m speaking more to the trend of OP’s rants. Also, compared to a lot of suffering in the world, it sure is inconvenient but there’s a lot worse situations he could be in - this is definitely not “misery”. The only person making it miserable to deal with is OP. People always think they have it bad, and that the whole world is against them somehow, but jeez dude trust me when I say that it could be A LOT worse. It’s kinda annoying when people complain and want pity. I’m in loads of debt and I don’t even have a car but u don’t see me complaining.

Bro u tripping. Why don't u utilize your situation to the fullest. You think life is all glamour when you think you get a high paying job.

You think some virtue signalling from tech-bros and tech-bitch who live in their own reality bubbles is going to do you any help from here?

The relative costs are high too in high paying cities. If you living with your parents, how but utilizing that to build your business.

Don't be a lazy son of a bitch. And most of all don't be a whiny mudafuka. It's all about the mindset.
  • 2
@b2plane wow what are you in the Balkans market? I know a Bulgarian guy with a bunch of connections who are so desperate for devs they were actually looking in the UK (not that they found anyone that could survive on their budget). It's not much but if you throw a portfolio and/or a CV at me I'll see what I can do.
  • 2
I was in the Eastern-European market once, I think the most miserable thing about it is that a lot of people will discard applications because they don't realize just how cheap it is compared to the same people trying to survive in the west.
  • 1
I'm a junior so I literally cost 2.5x the normal amount simply because my survival needs are multiplied by western prices
  • 2
@chonky-quiche misery is subjective, I am not him, neither are you. His threshold is different from yours and mine. But if the OP wants to vent here about his situation as a professional developer making peanuts on a country that requires his/hers services yet by paying peanuts in here then I am all for it, it is part of the rant in devrant. Personally, I believe that people well versed in an area of the whole spectrum of Computer Science should live a decent life, since his/her abilities are not found that often. All we can do is hope for the best for op
  • 2
@chonky-quiche and btw if you were to want to complain, I would 100% side with you my man. Luck places a very big part in our lives. Our homie has bad luck, and it keeps fucking him up. If luck ain't on your side I would 100% side with you.
  • 3
@AleCx04 I also have the ability to say whatever I feel as well, so I don’t really care.. that much 😬

Also, life is suffering man… it’s how u choose ur suffering that matters lol.
  • 2
@chonky-quiche with your last comment you summarized the great book "The subtle art of not giving a fuck".

Edit: or the "Everything is fucked". Same author. It's about suffering.

    Have read both

    @retoor that's a great one =]

@We3D the part about how to become happy is good. It's all about creating and solving problems. E.g. you're lonely (problem) -> buy cat (solution). But that gives small problems like you need to buy a litterbox and food. But after solving those little problems you become happier. Maybe that programming makes happy / addicting because solving little problems full time
  • 1
for me it is a dopamine indeed. every little step solved or any complex one is a triumph on its own ;]
  • 1
@retoor oops, I forget to include you in my prev comment. won't happen again ( can't actually promise ;} )
  • 1
@We3D that happened before young man * rubs your back *

Can you program when you had weed?
  • 1
    * rubs @retoor back too *

I can. I'm quite the opposite of most of the cases. When I'm high I'm more motivated to do more than when I'm not...everything becomes more interesting, even stuff like making the bed or washing the dishes...

whenever I start doing I'm more into that till the point of perfection... have to stop myself some times w/ the thoughts like : that's enough man, nobody will notice that half cm off ( for the bed sheet, when it comes about a site it gets pixel perfect alignment... ) =D
  • 1
@We3D after three puffs of that stuff I'm knocked out but I can code while completely drunk. But rarely drink
  • 1
@retoor if u combining them the trick is 2 first smoke and not the oposite... and everyone has its fav stimulant after all. I for example am reducing the coffee and drinking more tea and trying to get more sleep time ( gfs strict routine helps a lot 4 dat, when around )
  • 2
@retoor I always wanted to read it but I guess I don’t have to anymore lol
  • 2
@chonky-quiche there is more in the book regarding expectations from yourself / others and how to handle it. It's worth a read and it's an easy book. One day read
  • 3
@retoor one day read for most would equate to a month read for me lol

It's a difficult situation, I understand you. But don't despair, life doesn't end. Once upon a time, I had a situation a little better than yours, and I wandered onto a site like https://gamblizard.ca/best-canadian... and won a good amount although I was ready to lose everything. It sounds crazy, and I didn’t believe it myself right away, because I’m not a gambling fan. Money can come at you when you least expect it, but you have to do at least something.
