!Question

I see lots of rants here of bosses/clients screaming, imposing their authority, making people work during the night, weekends etc. Is it that common?

In my actual job, the few times my boss screamed to me, I was about "fuck this shit, I'll just do what he wants and go home at the right time. If they don't like it, just fire me. And laught silently when things goes wrong".

I've been afraid to get into the developer area and always be stressed out with too much work to do, people screaming and having to work on weekends.

Sorry, I am tired. My intention was to write "#Question".

Thank you for the advice :)

Apparently it is rather common, but honestly, if your boss knows his/her shit, it shouldn't happen.

I've never experienced that with any development manager. Sure I've been told off justifiably if I've screwed up but never anything unreasonable.

I have experienced issues with people who we work alongside with unrealistic expectations or who are just looking for someone to blame.

I've never been forced to work weekends or late at night but having said that there's been rare times I've felt no option but to. I work for an organisation that manages billions of pounds of public money so any issues need to be addressed ASAP. But as I say this is rare.

I like you have noticed a lot of these rants and it makes me feel grateful of the surroundings I have.

It's also worth remembering this is DevRant, not DevPraise. So all posts are by definition negative and if you read enough you probably get an unbalanced view of positive management vs negative management.

There’s two types of screaming. One is with a boss that doesn’t know shit. That’s annoying. The other one is screaming WITH a boss that knows his shit. This one I’d say is even enjoyable. So yes, it happens a lot. Not always in a bad way though
