Sooooo my mother just put a small magnet on top of my laptop. And right on top of where the HDD is.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hopefully no damage done since it was a weak magnet :(

    It's almost certainly fine. Magnetic field decreases with distance, so unless it's up against it, it's a particularly strong magnet, I wouldn't be too worried.

    @0xTJ yeah, the laptop was closed so the magnet was actually on the outer side of the screen, and it's one of those weak flat ones. Still made me freak the fuck out.
    (No apparent harm was done though, so at least there's that)

    Actually you Mead freaking strong magnets to damage the HDD. 2.5" drives have thinner cases but still. Nö normal household Magnet could harm them

    @TV4ELP @TV4ELP I'm going to guess that you're keyboard's native language isn't English

    @0xTJ and I'm gonna guess your keyboard doesn't support AI based auto correct

    @sam9669 I use Gboard, so yes, it is AI based, it just missed the your. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, I just noticed it. My keyboard sometimes does that with French.

    Modern HDDs are a lot more robust. I once put a neodymium magnet (20x20x5mm) right on top of one of my small failing drives and it didn't break lol
