xsacha4317yMacBook air isn't considered fast by anyone. You'd want a pro, or a laptop not made by Apple works too.
It should be faster with Linux. Try it out and see. You can just use a Live disk. -
Anyone who said X is not faster than y or y is not faster than x. I dont worry about it even a little.
But what I observed is...,
My laptop with 4Gb ram and i3 processor is considerbly slow, than MacBook air 4Gb Ram i3 processor. I feel cpu of my old laptop is higher than older one. -
The company provided me a mbp. I want windows on it and it'll be faster than their pos windows laptop offering. Only reason I have a mbp is for ios development. But virtual machine runs better than my windows laptop. This Mac has a solid state drive. So those that say old? Not that old... Overpriced but I got it for free technically.

Macbooks are great because they are build for one system and that system is build for small amount of hardwares. That is why it simply works and works fast. That is why pc with better hardware is not necessary faster than Mac/Macbook that is optimised for that specific os and hardware it uses.
-
@afrometal I wouldn't say great... But they work. If you want to take though still need windows and pc. I think they still use Intel gpu
-
@demortes 13" ones, but that's totally different intel gpu than the one you find in Windows laptops. And 15" Macbook Pro uses dedicated AMD gpu, designed and made for Apple.

Celes6907y@Gowtham95india well i3 doesn't mean that much, how many versions of it do exist in the world? I don't remember. By the way I hope mac os is still lighter and faster than a window 10 which need 1,5Gb to run with no applications.
But in the end, Linux allow you to choose an even lighter and faster environment if you want to. -
tahnik389917y@Gowtham95india I don't see the point of installing Ubuntu on a Macbook. macOS is one of the best unix system you can get and it's best optimized for Macbook.
And I don't know why people are saying that macs are not fast. They are quite fast and works very well, thanks to the optimization of macOS. -
magnusi5837y@tahnik about Ubuntu, I agree, but not Linux in general. Linux will always be faster when you choose so. As for other reasons, we have more customization options, more room for experimentation and also the possibility to avoid proprietary software completely.
Macs may be fast enough for everyday use by everyday users, but try compiling a behemoth like LLVM, Chrome or Servo and compare the time to a laptop in the same price range. -
@all,
Whoever have this question?:
When MacBook itself are fast. Then why some other thing?
Imagine you have a 1000cc engine and you put 1000kg weight. What will be the speed?
What if I reduce the wt to 100 kg, what will be the speed?
That's all what I'm trying to do.
Macbooks are fast because of it's hardware ?
If so, I'm I'll install linux in my MacBook air (given by company).
What do you suggest ?
