(Sorry for the "screenshot", I'm using gentoo and too lazy to compile some screenshot software just for one picture on devRant)

    Aha!

    That's it! It all makes sense now! If you don't know much about technology, then you're probably using windows.

    But hang on, if you don't know what an operating system is, then how could you possibly know what a VM is?

    It's forever to be a mystery...

    @coolq Well, you don't know what a VM is. That's why you are reading the article :P

    @wildcard but here's a twist to the plot.

    How did you know that a VM existed in the first place?
  • 7
    @coolq Maybe you're the head of the IT department and some IT guy suggested to run software xyz on a virtual machine so it's easier to scale, and now you have to look up the technical terms because you are a moron who knows absolutely nothing about what the people in your department do yet having got the job by being the bosses daughter's husband.

    @wildcard Hmm, that is a possible scenario, but something tells me they will get stuck at installing the VM software first...

    Maybe they should have said something more like: warning, if you do not know what a operating system is, then you must close this tab immediately! If you proceed anyway then your computer will be infected with viruses.

    I guess that last part is optional.

    Or these days os x or a Chromebook. Everything is pretty easy nowadays. Even Linux isn't as painful. Gentoo won't even let you do a stage 2 anymore if memory serves.

    @ninjatini stage 2 isn't supported, but off course can still be done ;)

    @micfort wtf is a stage 2?

    @Devman in gentoo you have different stages. The normal install of gentoo is a stage 3 install. The base system is already compiled for you. In Stage 2 and 1 there is more to compile. Which takes quite some time. Stage 1 is already for 10s of years not supported and stage 2 is unsupported for the last couple of years. In stage 3 you still have to compile the kernel. So you still have to compile more than Ubuntu.

    @Devman Gentoo used to have three stages you could build. Stage three requires the least set up and configuration. You used to be able to build the whole os essentially from scratch.
