Whatever its origin, today it means penetrating a computer to which you are not supposed to have access. Unless you're an old/non-technical person, in which case you would refer to the adept use of a computer as, "hacking," owing to your lack of expertise in the field. I think that's what the OP is annoyed about. Validating Luddite inexperience with buzzwords.
